.308 vs .270 for deer hunting

These are always entetaining as to why one uses a certain high power rifle cartridge over another, especially some kind of long action cartridge vs a short action with different ballistics between them. The reason almost always come out to be "the OughtSix, or 270, or 7mm shoots flatter than a 308 further out" or something like that. But almost nobody shoots a deer, especially in this state, far enough to actually see a difference.
Regarding "Knockdown Power", just go look at the energy produced by either if that's a thing for you. A 308 will kill deer just as easy as a 270 or 30-06 or any other rifle and you won't see the difference between the two. Probably ever.

I was joking around and meant no harm. Most things I post are ment in humor. If I were to shoot deer I would use what ever is handy, because I see them when I'm out working, I don't go and sit in a stand. It has been a long time since I shot a deer. Last one I got was with my 45, so I can't say much about 308 or 270, but he did thank me for not hitting him with my truck.

I think the point he was trying to make, was both checked off the list of what you want a hunting caliber to do. Kill the deer and not have it run off.

Edited to add: I think a better question would be, what caliber using similar overall weight of the rig and using comparable weights for caliber does the shooter prefer to shoot in terms of recoil.

The buck I shot with my .308 ran much farther than anything I've shot with a 30.06.

but I have used a 223.

Only caliber rifle I have that I haven't got a deer or hog with is one of my hornets.
