Never say never. I got so far down the rabbit hole on JDM Daiwa Steez BC's I never thought I'd come back out. Further down you go you start shaving weight and end up with a sub 4oz BCer with custom cork knobs on CF handles with custom bearings that will crank a 6lb slaunchdonkey with class.

That was a dark time in my life. Thank God I'm back in good graces with Shimano Core Gods.

I’m just gonna go ahead and say it… you either have a very high paying job or you have massive credit card debt. 🤣

I like to browse eBay JDM listings for stuff. You can find some really nice stuff. Like this for example

I've been watching this for a bit. It's the JDM version of Shimano Core 100 MG7. A 7 gear 100 sized BC. The Cores are and have always been stoopid spensive. 250 and up for a gem.

I get these, tear them down and replace the 7.0:1 aluminum shitty gear with a 5, 6 or 7 brass gear depending on your needs. Much smoother stronger. Quieter too. Grab a bigger handle, better bearings. Maybe 50 dollars in parts and you have an amazing BCer for much less than the current high end line of Shinano's.

I'll get bored with it and turn it for 300ish. Rinse and repeat and I end up with a decent amount of fun money.

I don't have many hobbies but I can usually make them pay for themselves over time.
