Do you guys typically carry a Leatherman or similar multitool? I never have because I’m usually close enough to my truck in which I have a good selection of tools in my toolbox. I’ve been thinking about getting one, but in reality, I’m not sure that it would actually get used.

I don't carry one my me as I don't work in the field or the farm anymore, but I do have one in the truck, one in my wifes car and in the range bag that get used alot.

I have carried a Leatherman almost daily for 30 years. I started with an “original” in blackened stainless (with the blasting cap crimper, because you never know when you’ll be called on to crimp a blasting cap in the wild world of IT).

A few years ago I bought a Wingman when I was in Tupelo and needed a can opener to open cans of Viennies for my dad. (At least I think it’s a Wingman—it’s a Leatherman and it has a can opener, anyway.)

This year I replaced it with an Arc partly because of the Magnacut blade and partly because I’d been looking for a new Leatherman that didn’t have the sentimental attachment of the Wingman.

I don’t use it as often as I use one of the knives I carry, but it does come in really handy when I don’t want to bust the tip off of a knife by turning a screw or prying something open. It’s also more handy than a knife for pulling sand burrs out of the feet of nieces and nephews. It’s always in its sheath on my belt when I’m at work or in the pocket of my overalls when I’m not.

I used to a lot and used it for everything. I keep one in my vehicle and in a range bag but not on my person like I used to. It is handy and versatile if you keep it in the truck or something. The old school Leatherman is great and the Gerber mulittool is great. We got them both issued to us.

I've used many different brands of leatherman style multitools though the years from cheap $7 walmart specials to a $40+ dollar leatherman.

I don't carry them, they're in my vehicles, tool boxes/bags & some drawer or room in house.

even have an older victorinox swissarmy Multitool that weights 1/2lb that was given to me & my youngest son's mother way back when by a funny old man & wife when they passed.

they willed us a lot of items.

Thanks for the responses guys. I’m going to get one or two and try it. On a side note, I’m getting rid of my truck, and I cleaned out my toolbox today. Damn, I had no idea how much crap that I had stuffed in that thing. I’m going back to an old school truck. Found a 1990 F250 single cab that looks almost brand new. It’s been sitting in a guy’s garage for about 10 years. After new fuel pumps in both tanks and a fuel filter along with a new battery, it runs strong with only 72,000 original miles.

Cool, 351w or 460?
Manual or auto?

iirc 351 had the e4od and the 460 had the c6

Depending on manufacture date, some of the 351 had c6 also

It’s an auto with the 460. I would have preferred a manual, but I’m happy with it.

I carried a SOG for years. Broke one of the jaws on it cutting heavy tie wire in a powerhouse warehouse and threw it in a box then got another one just like it. My kid ended up with it in his SAR gear. Saw a video about the Harbor Freight knockoff of the Leatherman and finally found one to buy. It’s not bad, especially for the price. I’ll still get a better one when I find the one I’m looking for.

That's alright, iirc carbed 460 was approx 210hp & fuely was approx 240hp,

with a c6 3spd auto,

probably got 4.11 reargear, maybe a 3.73, 4.3 or 4.56

So depending on gear, mpg be 9 to 15 highway, in town or towing be a bit lower.

But regular maintenence and not raggin it you can get well over 300k with no major issues.

Edit to add, read fuel pumps in tanks, so you got the fuely, it might have the aod transmission 3spd w/od

I was gifted a Leatherman one Christmas by the company I work for. Engraved with the company logo. It was in my range bag but now I take it with me when I go fishing. I like it a lot and would like to get another one…The knife on it is sharp as hell.

I have one of the Gerbers in my truck. With its gravity knife-like action, it’s definitely more fidget-friendly than the old school Leatherman, and its handle was more comfortable to squeeze tightly, but the Leatherman was more compact, so that’s what I primarily carried. It’s a solid choice, for sure.

I ought to dig it out and see how it compares to the Arc.

I did but I switched to a needle nose SOG.
