***TRIGGER WARNING: MagPul PMag in use.***
I have a 76 vintage Colt SP1 that's one of my favorite rifles. But it's a little too pretty to drag out and shoot a lot so I wanted something similar with a few modern upgrades.
So, I put this H&R 604 "Air Force" upper on a PSA lower. The upper has a 1/7 barrel so it'll handle the more modern, heavier bullets. Aside from that it pretty much looks the part of the original. The lower has a repro A1-length stock, a nice SOLGW trigger and MagPul trigger guard and grip. The upper is what I really wanted and I wasn't trying for an exact replica.
Shot 60 rounds thru it yesterday and it's every bit as fun as the original. Functions great and shoots really well with 62gr stuff. I did notice the gas key staking looked a little weak so I'll remedy that before I shoot it again. Also, the triangle handguards feel very slightly flimsy...as does the stock. Not bad...but you can tell they're not original. All in all, I'm pretty pleased with it.
