I need to work up a load for 44 mag with a heavy bullet that is subsonic for a suppressed application. All my loads are hotter with H110 or 2400 and I've no experience with anything over 240gr. I'll start with 300gr because I can find jacketed bullets everywhere, but would like to get to the 370 to 405gr cast bullet range. Has anyone played around with 300+ grain bullets that are subsonic?

I had a friend who built an integrally suppressed Ruger bolt action. .44 mag. He used to shoot 325gr 44 Special loads and that thing was Hollywood quiet. All you would hear is the click and then a bang on the plate at 75 yards a moment later. It was/is incredible.

Sweet - SRTarms is about done with my 77/44, I hope its like that. That's what I am looking for.

That’s the same platform. I think you’re going to love it. It’s got Josey Wales all over it. Quiet and highly effective. 😁

You can use powders like Titegroup or AA#2 or #5. You can get pretty slow but anything less than 1125 FPS is subsonic. I load 45 Colt and 44SPL down to 600ish and it’s like a pop gun. 44 SPL is subsonic in a standard high power load already you can use instead of 44Mag unless it’s a levergun application and there are function issues. I use 240 and 255 gr cast bullets. I’ll find the links from companies I order from. They go up to 400+ gr iirc.

I think I have some AA#2 laying around. I want to keep it around 1050 fps or so, needs to have as much energy as possible while staying subsonic. Plan is to sort a working load that is accurate, then put a thermal on it and use it against the hogs on my land.
