CMP has finally shit-canned the awkward and time-consuming process of generating random numbers for 1911 purchases. They're going to a straight purchase plan just like rifles. Get application packet, mail it in, get your pistol. Lifetime limit of two.

My lifetime limit is 1. I have already reached it.

@jakeman pretty much nailed it. If you're into collectable US military guns that you can still shoot, they're very much worth it. If you're looking for a nice 1911 with modern touches to shoot, you can find less expensive models for that. If you get one and decide it's not for you, you'll likely be able to sell it for substantially more than you paid.

Don't buy into the bullshit from the haters that these are shot out pieces of shit guns. They're not. Especially the higher grade guns. I got one a little over 2 years ago. All Colt from 1943 and it looks nice.

Mine is a nice solid piece of machinery.

Colt frame w/ a Remington Rand slide.

I don't have a clue what it's worth, but I'm certain it's more than I paid. I've looked some up before, and if you exclude the stupid numbers the Singers bring, they're still outrageously priced.
 
I got one a couple years back that was a colt lower with a USGI repl slide. I was disappointed at first then decided I like it the way it wax as a genuine US 1911A1. It is actually one of the most accurate handguns I have ever shot.
 
I just picked up mine today. I could’ve got two but don’t have 2500 on hand. The lady that called me said I can call her back and get my second one if they still have them. It came with one mag, a certificate in a nice hard case and all the accoutrements including a repro 1964 TM.
