Being a Colt geek I've wanted a complete, Canadian-made AR since they started showing up in the US several years ago. I found a nice lower but I wanted the full Monty.

Anyway, I ran across this baby a few weeks ago and finally got it in my hands today. From what I've read these were LE guns (Canadian or American or both depending on who you believe) that somehow found their way into the US. My guess is this was a gun shipped to an LE agency in the US...but that's just a guess. Serial number verifies it was a Diemaco gun so I'm pretty sure it's a pre-2005 gun. Aside from the C MP 5.56 1/9 HBAR marks on the barrel there's no date stamp which was normal for Canadian-made guns. The Canadian barrels are supposed to be cold hammer forged and have a reputation for really good accuracy.

The bolt carrier on this on is also a Diemaco with the stylized "D" and the bolt is marked "MPD". I'm not sure the handguards are original but they are Colt handguards. The stock is also a standard USGI stock. The buffer tube is Canadian...you can tell because the threads behind the castle nut are milled out.

I'm sure a few of you guys know a lot more about these rifles than I do so any info will be appreciated.

Very cool. Diemaco sold quite a few cop guns via contracts and grants and whatever to US cop departments over the years. IDK if they did any direct import sales though, probably not. You should throw that magpul rear in the trash and get one of my Matechs. I'll give you a good deal.

Very nice rifle, congrats!

Thanks. I think it's pretty cool. That MBUS just came on it...I actually have a Matech or two in my parts drawer. I'm trying to find one of the Canadian carry handles to put on it. But most guys that have one for sale act like it's their main source of retirement income. They're pricey.
