GOP pushing to keep suppressors on the NFA.

Between all of this drama and RIFs across the government, I'm sure it's the perfect red tape storm.
My hunting buddy called me this afternoon and his was approved. Same suppressor, same dealer, same submission date etc. He got his and I'm still waiting for an email.

Maybe I should stop wishing the ATF would shit in their hands and clap......

The reduction on the suppressor tax to $0 made it through the Senate version of the OBBB. Since the House put that language in first, when the Senate version comes back to them for final vote it should stay. Once Trump signs the bill, it will be law.

I really hope the legal theory that removing the tax opens the whole NFA up to being invalidated proves to be accurate and prophetic. The tax was the loophole used to justify it in the first place, so once that’s gone…

True, without the tax requirement, it just becomes a de facto firearms registry. Although a suppressor is not a firearm, so the gov. could argue for the continuation of the registration for "public safety" They should have eliminated the tax on all NFA items. That would change everything.

If they can manage to invalidate the NFA before the midterms, that would be something.
Invalidating parts of the NFA is possible, but the court system moves too slowly for “before the midterms” to be a reasonable expectation. I would absolutely love to be proven wrong on that timeline prediction, though.

So when I went online to find out when the tax was to end (it's 1/1/26 BTW) I found this article that says it has also been eliminated for SBRs and SBSs. https://www.pewpewtactical.com/tax-on-suppressors-sbr-ends/. Other articles I found seemed to confirm this. I had heard nothing mentioning this before the bill was made law. Only suppressors were noted. The interwebs is full of misinformation, so I will keep researching this.

Basically everything but machine guns will have a $0 tax stamp in January.

There are lawsuits now in the courts to eliminate the NFA since there is no longer a tax, but I feel like this means machine guns will remain NFA since those are still subject to a tax.

Probably true on full auto. Here’s GOA’s announcement of their lawsuit “to gut the NFA.”
