in construction, I have seen all brands of generators. Yes even predater Gen sets.
There is only one manufacturer I would stay away from. Anything with a Kohler diesel motor. Honda gen sets are the best on the market for what we do with them. If you want home power for when the light go out. Look into

I don't know, never owned a generac.
Did have a coleman 5000 awhile back, iirc b&s 6hp, windings on the gen fried on it fairly quick, replaced under warrenty, and it ran/worked well, exhaust was pretty loud, it got stolen though.
Several years back I got a great HF coupon, took it and the store mgr said would apply to the generators, so since the 6.5hp 4375 predator was on sale, I bought it and a wheel kit for $390 otd.
it starts easy, runs smooth, has big muffler so it's fairly quite, and so far nothing on it has yet failed. Only thing I've done is basic oil & air filter changes, use 100% gas, it still got the original spark plug.
On longer power outages, it runs my fridge, deep freezer, tv & 15kbtu window ac unit with no problems, longest I've ever ran it continual was approx 8hrs.
Never needed to hook it to well to pump water, but it's got enough power to do it.
Have used it to power my 125 fluxcore welder multiple times with no problems.
