Ruger RXM and MagPul EHGs

I'm waiting on my LGS to get a Ruger RXM for me. Right now they only come with the gray grip...and I don't really care for that. Not a big deal, really, but additional EHGs (Enhanced Handgun Grip) are only $35 from MagPul.

So, I ordered one in FDE and got it a day or two ago. I really like the feel of it, and if the complete gun feels as good as the lower half does, this is gonna be a real winner for Ruger, I'm guessing. But, wow... MagPul's FDE sure looks a lot like OD. I called MagPul about it and the rep I spoke with told me he thinks just about everyone that's ordered an FDE EHG has called claiming they got the wrong color. I can see why... Even my wife, who see about 87,000 distinct color shades, said it looks green.

I checked it against some MagPul FDE MOE furniture I have on an AK-V. Yep...it's the same.

Regardless of the color, I'm really looking forward to getting the gun and trying it out.

EHG in FDE. Real thing vs photo on the box:

i fingered an RXM the other day and it’s on my list. Meant to grab one at my local farm store when they had them on sale for IIRC $380 but other things came up and didn’t get it done. Keep waiting for them to get more in stock but haven’t seen any yet… it’s going to be interesting to see who else ends up making EHG’s…

I ordered that one from DeLeon Pharmacy in TX. Shipped same day. $365 shipped, no tax, $10 transfer. I tried getting one from my LGS but he could never catch them in stock.

I've only fired about 5 rounds thru mine after I mounted the optic. I just put the dot on top of the front sight and checked zero...pretty damn close. Feels better in the hand than a Glock. Trigger not quite so good. It feels almost like a 3-stage trigger. Weird. A little take up, pull a bit more and you hit a wall, then you pull a little more and it breaks. It's not bad...just different.

I didn't care for the grey EHG so I ordered an FDE from MagPul. Swapping them is a piece of cake. I like the FDE better but the grey looks good, too. I'm just looking for a chance to get up to my range and wring it out a bit. Too much springtime stuff going on here right now to find time.

I meant to mention... One place where Ruger really dropped the ball is on the mounting system for Holosun optics. The locator pins are too tall/thick for the 407k series...the perfect size optic for this gun. So I guess we wait for thinner locator pins before mounting those. I had the 407k mounted but without the pins. I switched over to my 407c and it mounts right up and will still co-witness.

I have one. Another overhyped, semi functional piece of ruger junk.

I don't get that impression at all. Is it the "Glock Killer" people are saying? No...not even close. But it has a quality feel to me and from what I've seen - minus a few early reports - functions very well. I'm gonna put a few hundred rounds thru mine today...we'll see if that opinion is well founded or not.

One other thing...the magazines (Glock and MagPul) are loose when inserted into the gun. They really wiggle quite a bit. I find that pretty odd. Doesn't seem to affect function at this point.

Well, I put 150 rounds thru the RXM today. Feeds and functions perfectly, shoots exactly where it's aimed and probably feels slightly better than a Gen 3 G19. Aside from the overall feel in the hand and the price I don't really see a compelling reason to buy this gun over a Gen 3 Glock if that's what you're after.

The trigger has a slightly longer pull than a Glock but it's pretty similar. One thing I found that I've never noticed on a Glock... The takedown lever and the little pin in front of it which holds the chassis in place both get hotter than a MoFo after a few mags. After about 6 mags with little delay I made the mistake of resting my thumb against the takedown lever. Self-correcting problem. I won't do that shit again. I have a blister that'll remind me. I don't recall that part getting really hot on a Glock and I've fired untold tens of thousands of rounds thru them.

I don't know if this is a better gun than a G19 (Gen 3) but it has some features that make it more appealing: Price (new), overall comfort of the grip, better stock sights, ability to change grip frames. My guess is they'll be about equal in reliability. Of course there is far more aftermarket support for everything for the Glock. Then again, a lot of Glock stuff will work with the RXM.
