.360 Buckhammer Thread

Gotcha! One time they sent me a case of what was supposed to be 124 grain 9mm. Over 2/3rds was actually 38 Super hollow point....all in the 9mm boxes. Sometimes ya gotta wonder! I have had batches of 6.8 with different primers as well. It all shot ok, but it was surprising. It does seem to happen more with low demand small batches.

I have to wonder if Federal maybe got the leftover stuff? Remington Partnered with Henry on this round. That said, I don't know who owns what on the components.

I fired 50 on Sunday and have since cleaned and prepped them aside from a FL sizing and trim. Weight on the brass is good, OAL is consistent, primer pockets tight and looks like good Federal Brass. This was my end goal on buying factory ammo anyway.

I'm pretty sure that Vistaoutdoor runs Remington as well. So Federal, CCI/Speer, and Remington. Now with that in mind you can see why you get different primers occationally

First handloads are in the bag with this caliber. I ran out of room and could not control my OAL with Hodgdon's max of 37.5 grains. Dropped down to 36.9 and everything kind of jived. I think this may be max capacity for Federal Brass.

As you can see, the crimp ring on these Speer Bullets isn't super consistent. These all measure 1.885" off the O-Give too.

Stubby little shits eh?

Have to give RCBS a plug here.

The seating plug that comes with the .360 Buckhammer dies is flat and seats off the nose. Not the end of the world, but I'd rather seat off the O-Give. Emailed RCBS last week asking if I could buy one for the 35 Remington or one that would work. Received an email this morning saying they were sending one from the 350 legend. Wouldn't let me pay either. (y)

Got my custom Possum Hollow bore guide for the .360 yesterday. Eric did a pretty decent job on it. Could have been a little thinner, but it works and kept all the crud out of the receiver.

New stem should be here today. I may pull these factory rounds out 6-7 thou and reseat then to a more consistent OAL

Finally got around to loading some rounds with AA1680 this evening. Shot some factory ammo for brass this morning.

Hodgdon is calling for 38.0 grains with a 180 grain to pass 2500 FPS.

They were calling for 37.5 grains of CFEBLK, but I could only get 37.1 in without killing a bullet. They advertised 2431 FPS, I got 2348. Low SD and ES with a decent group, so I was good.

I started with 37.0, loaded 5 @37.5 and 5 at 38.0. I'm compressed as shit and had to really work at getting them seated. My CBTO is on the money with every round too. Factory Federal 180's averaged 2410 over 30 rounds. If I can beat that, I'll be stoked.

I bit the bullet and ordered the RPP sear and spring kit for my Model X. Arrived today and installed in about 30 minutes.

I have two more headed this way. Hot dam did this clean the trigger up.

Trigger was a helluva upgrade. Creep is gone, but it's still around the 4 poundish range. I can live with that.

Groups went really well yesterday. I didn't break 2500 FPS, but I got close.

37.0 grains went to shit real fast. SD above 30 and group was minute of deer @100 yards.
37.5 tightened up really well with an SD of 8.9.
38.0 looked really well over the Garmin, but wasn't happy with the group.

I loaded up the remainder of my 15 pieces of brass at 1.883" CBTO with 37.5 grains. I'll shoot these at 100, 150 and 200 yards. Looking back at my numbers using CFEBLK, I got about 130-150 FPS increase with 1680. This will be what I use going forward.

American Reloading has some Federal stamped .360 Buckhammer brass in stock. Haven't seen this anywhere else.

Brass is from pulled down loads and primed. Add to cart to get the $60.60/100 Price. 6 left.

They also have pulled down MP349 "Like" 1680 for $209 shipped for 8 pounds.

Got my Brass from American Reloading today. All Boxed in 100 round boxes, all FC stamped (only opened one box so far) primers look good, brass has some marks and dinged mouths as expected. No damage that I can't fix.

I bought 500 of them. That should get me shooting and loading .360 for a bit if this cartridge dies off.

Hopefully not die off like the 307 & 356 winchesters or 5mm rem mag.

I ended up buying some of the MP349 powder from them as well. Tested it out today.

With 37.0 grains of 1680, my speeds averaged around 2475-2490 depending on the temp. This was a pretty compressed load that required the seating stem to be torqued down more. No ring on the bullet and it shoots consistent sub 10 SD loads around a 1/2" at 50 yards and 1-1.5" at 100 yards. This is off a bag with a 3-9.

I started low with MP349
36.0 Grains averaged 2460 FPS
36.5 Grains averaged 2463 FPS
37.0 Grains averaged 2510 FPS with some primer cratering and no sticky action.

I loaded up 37.5, 37.7 and 38.0 but ended up stopping and pulled those rounds. I want to stay around 2475 with this bullet since getting a custom turret from Leupold.

I've loaded some up at 36.7 as I am pretty sure this will get me to where I want. These seat much better than with 1680 at 37.0 grains. Nice thing was, the 5 shots at 36.5 made a ragged hole at 50 yards with a 4.2 SD and a spread of 12.1.

I have enough of this MP349 to load .360 Buckhammer into the next century. I would definitely recommend this as a cheap alternative to 1680. 209 shipped to the door for 8 pounds.
