What's new

Anyone running one of these mounts

I’ve used one…the T1/2 version. They are being used by some folks back east. It’s a pretty cool setup for CQC gun. If you’re not running a laser, then it’s probably not needed. They have another tall mount without the forward rail

I’m looking at the Lerna mount for my AR PCC. I think the heads-up will be more natural and afford greater situational awareness

I have never had any trouble using a NVD behind an Aimpoint or EoTech with a standard mount nor several of the folks I hunt with. Played with it a bunch, and it is pretty easy to do a snap shot in around a second just with the standard mount. I guess I don't see the use in putting it way up off the receiver, but with words like "game changer" I'm sure they will sell plenty of them. Since I don't really use the C clamp hold with my thumb over the top, even if I ran a laser I doubt it would reflect off my thumb, but hey...
new mouse trap.

It's funny, this was "all the rage" in the 3-,gun world back around 2015. High mounts to keep your head up, almost the same wording in their ads. Well it didn't last very long, as suddenly folks figured out that if you don't have a fair stock weld, accuracy starts suffering fairly quickly, by 2019 you would have been hard pressed to find anyone running one. Funny how "this game changer" made the jump from one world to the next. This one was slower than some.

Me and a buddy were talking and everything is repeating or going backwards…when we ran a carry handle rail and mounted reflexes on them. It happens about every 3-5 years. It’s usually a full acquisition cycle, then when all the people who made the thing are gone, somebody reinvents the thing again. Rinse and repeat

I’m not running NV or laser. I’m currently running with a co-witness EoTech and to me it doesn’t feel natural in the sense of a defensive set up.

Where the hydra works great is in a short-ish CQC kind of gun with less real estate and using the “modern” shooting techniques…the c-clamp isn’t so new though, I first started seeing it pop up around 2009ish. It’s all user preference though

One result of the high optic craze was a whole bunch of stuff real close to the muzzle got shot, like V-Tac walls, car hoods, wall corners....etc. because folks weren't used to that much sight offset and would not clear the muzzle, even though the sight was.....now granted this happens anyway, but it doubled when the high sight craze hit. Not saying don't do it, just saying really think it through, get off the bench and practice in all sorts of shooting positions. I e the high scope guys found out prone became a real struggle due to really craneing their neck to see the optic and no check weld.

I’ve been shooting with optics since I was 8. This isn’t my first rodeo and all of my shooting is in the field at the farm. This would be going on a 14.5” 9mm PCC. It’s not a hunting rifle nor is it used in competitions. Its uses are for steel, paper, and when things go sideways if a home invasion took place. I’m not concerned with shooting the opposite bed rail of my pickup or a mirror on a quad while shooting off the seat. An argument could even be made that sights are not called for at the range it would be deployed in a defensive situation in the home.

I’ll probably hold off on getting it now because I have my sights set on getting a Winchester 1873 in 38/357 and a Vernier sight

Got me beat, I seldom run optics, except at night.

He looks comfy! Much more natural with his head up. Circa 1985

Oh come on, that photo is funny! You could be a Hindu and that would still be funny.
JCann, I don't doubt your skill, I was just pointing out some of the things I had come across with similar set ups, that folks didn't think about when they first started doing it.

Your post caused me great distress whereby I had to retire to my safe space and I over ate on cookies and drank too much milk.

I think that scope is higher than 2.91 inches

MILK!!! SACRILEGE!!!!! a Hindu would say. 🤣

Hmmmm......I ate a bowl of clabbered milk with chopped up fresh strawberries & bit of honey.

Goddamned clabbered milk aka large curd cottage cheese is tasty with the sweetened up fresh strawberries.

Hypebeast bullshit from a terrible group of people. I stick with unity, geissele, and adm mounts.
