Fake tourniquets

I just got back from SOF Week and they had the SOMA Conference in NC at the same time. I don't do med shit anymore but some friend tagged me in stuff and some posts on TCCC/trauma response stuff. Just a PSA, there's a lot of real world and anecdotal evidence on why not to be a cheapass when it comes to med supplies, especially tourniquets. I get that people don't want to pay $25-$30 for a TQ and think chicom temu shit is just as good. I'll just say, would you trust it with your wife and kids? Or even your dog? If so, good luck, I hope it doesn't fail.

I'll list a couple sites that have the whys, but the top three I have seen:
1. The windlass breaks/bends
2. The TQ as a whole can't get enough tension because inferior webbing or other materials that stretch
3. The retaining mechanism and velcro fail under load

All these can mean a fatal outcome for the patient.
Training is another issue and I said something about it before. People buy IFAKs and tourniquets and don't really know how to use them. It's bad enough that soldiers and Marines who get trained still fuck them up by the numbers and then a regular person who's never touched one?? I've seen them get put on and dudes will turn them all day; still not enough tension and they look like a topknot on some Rastafari's head. It's better to just not spend the money if you're not going to learn and definitely don't buy cheap chinese shit coz its a deal or you're cheap.

I personally don't like CAT tourniquets. The windlass always bends some and it's difficult to put on thighs on American males that are in shape and worse on fat dudes who like buffets too much. I prefer the SOF tourniquet with the aluminum windlass. Better webbing too and worth every penny.

Fake TQ stuff:

I been wanting to get a few just wasn’t sure what to get
CAT Tourniquet:

Or a SOF Tourniquet. My preferred TQ.

I've got several, I don't know if any of them are the good kind, I usually find a couple a year laying in the ground after matches. The latest batch of shooters are wearing a battle belt with all sorts of crap on it for a USPSA/IPSC type pistol match, and almost all of them have a tourniquet on them.... well a few don't have them at the end of the match. 😁
Latest "craze" is mounting them up side down for a quick constricting. Seen a few finger nails get removed as well with the holder too close to the pistol holster on the draw.

I bet a few are chicom knockoffs. You can find videos of how to tell.
I see a lot of people running around with battle belts but have probably never used one in real life. Most of them are kit queers.
It's just a MOLLE LBE...reconstruction from the old days. On mine from deployment, I ran a pistol on the right with my knife behind it and the only thing near the pistol was a snap link and a small doodads pouch on the front right. The pistol area should be clean. The left had mags and the back left had an IFAK which hung on my pants belt 50% of the time. Usually kept the back clean as possible for vehicles. I wore suspenders too...walking over hill and dale for all night on a 10-15km patrol wreaks havoc on your back and hip flexors if you have that belt tight enough not to fall. It's probably fine if you just have a pistole and some mags but if it gets loaded up with stuff, it's get heavy fast.
All IFAK/First aid/TCCC/TQ stuff went on the left side of everybody, so everyone knew where it was. When it's all over the place willy nilly, chaos isn't far behind. Most TQs would be in pockets on the left with the velcro tab hanging out so anyone can grab it.

Yeah, running a 14 and various crap an H harness was not just nice, but required! Of course you probably had the fancy nylon Y type, unless you found some of the old canvas H style. We never had a Tourniquet, but we always had a Popsicle stick in our left chest pocket to bit on if hit that bad 😁

Yeah, 30hate requires a little more support than a poodle shooter, especially if you’re bringing enough for everyone. Learned to share in first grade. 😂 I’m not all top tier, but it’s a mix of Condor and whoever makes the original TACO pouches. I like them because they’ll keep anything I have.

My rig is arranged much as JEVapa described with the exception of a roll up dump pouch on my seven o’clock stacked on a taco pouch. If I ever have to roll this shit out I probably won’t be able to depend on a resupply. More than two CAT-Ts is probably wishful thinking without BIg Green behind ya.
