Yeah, I made good holsters that happen to be pretty. Utilitarian is the same as "it works".You did make some pretty holsters.
All tools are same as pretty much anything,
Same as leather tools I use, some I bought at tandy's, some at hobby lobby, when I make leather belts, holster & slings gear, it's built for what I need/want, it's utilitarian plain & simple, no designs/beauty marks, they won't win a beauty contest, they're durable and take abuse.
When I got machetes or bolos in Thailand or the Philippines I made sheathes out of MRE carboard and 100mph hour tape and carried them around the jungle, did it work? yeah. Was it "utilitarian? Probably. Did I keep it? fuck no. I've made flip flops out of 550 cord and MRE cardboard for shower shoes all over the planet. Did it work? yeah. Was it "utilitarian? Probably. Did that prevent me from going and getting real flip flops from the PX or some other store? fuck no.
Arguing the point for being cheap and chincy and saying it's the same as anything else is ridiculous. Completely ridiculous. Spending more time and money being cheap to save a buck than it does to buy something quality isn't frugal or smart. It's being too cheap for your own good.
