What's new

I couldn’t figure out where to put this…

So those of you who are more into long range....

Did the 169 TMK take off, or is most everybody still using 168s, or moving to a different caliber? Seems they made a splash when they were released, but you don't see/hear much of anything about them???

You’d have to do a load and plug it into a calculator to see anything. I have have other TMK and TGK and I don’t like them much because they’re shaped a little differently, especially the TGK.
One issue with 168s was they didn’t have very good terminal performance…that whole KE=1/2MV2 thing.
I’ll run a comparison through my AB stuff and see.

Their performance is about the same. There is no 169TMK I could find, just a 169SMK so I compared it with a 175SMK. There is a 168TMK as is a 175TMK. Unless you’re an experimental load development hobbyist, I don’t think trying to make a 168/169gr match bullet outperform 175gr GMM/AB39/M118LR is worth the primers or powder. I see no benefit, at least for me. I’d move to a high performance Berger if you wanna do that kind of thing.

All my guns are 1:10. I had a 1:8 and I gave it to a buddy. It's way better...I'm gonna swap a couple to 1:8 at some point. I'm pretty sure the 308 barrel on my Siete is 1:8.

With the 1/8 what’s the heaviest bullet you run?
What velocity and distance are you getting?
What group size do y’all average?

I'm not really a long range guy. To me 308 runs out of gas around 800 for effectiveness no matter what bullets I'm happy with 168s. Now I do.go heavier in 300 WM.

That's supposed to be the reason for the 169s, keep supersonic past 1000. Anywho, wasn't the point of the video, just noticed that's what he said he was shooting through it.

I believe the guy in the video had 10 shot 50% hit on a full size IPSC at 1,200 yards with the 169gr in a different video. That’s dang good for a 308 DMR. Especially when it was roughly 1.5 MOA at 100 yards when he zeroed it.
