This looks like a heck of a deal for a good thermal

I had no idea what I was actually doing when I mounted this Burris setup to my Sabre .308 upper. But, it works. This is the Burris clip on with the adapter specifically for the Burris LPVO. I'm actually really surprised how good it works. You do lose detail and resolution as you dial up the scope magnification. But it's only an 8x scope so it's not too bad. You don't need the rubber eyecup but I left it on because I'll lose it if I take it off. And, it doesn't hurt anything being left on...and it's always there if I decide to detach the thermal and use it as a hand-held.

So it's just sticking out there with no support on the bottom side?
No support underneath. The ring clamp mount over the scope bell seems very secure. This is how they sell them and if it were a problem they probably wouldn't. I might not feel as comfortable trying this on a 30mm tube body. Much less gripping surface. The clamp ring allows quick removal and reattachment. If given the choice I would prefer a pic. rail quick release mount, but they only offer a screw down rail mount which would make it difficult to take off and use as a monocular. This type of ring mount keeps everything coaxial where their rail mount might not co-witness with the scope height on your given rifle. The downside is you have to purchase a different clamp mount to move between different scopes with different diameter o.d.

Just the piece in red. I had to buy the yellow clip on mount extra. You have to buy the one for the o.d. of your scope. FYI the red adapter will screw right into a 50mm scope, but it makes it a lot more difficult to get it on and off quickly.
Thanks for the prompt reply! I received a similar adapter to what is in red, but mine is somewhere between 40mm leupold and a 50mm Zeiss I had on hand . I’m headed to Cabela’s to hopefully find a scope this adapter will fit so I can check it out under magnification. I didn’t want to order a separate adapter yet because I thought it would direct thread to a 50mm like yours. I’ll be getting some if I keep it though

They also offer a picatinny rail mount, but it’s not a quick release.

I had mine out the night before last and had a lot of fun with it. I haven’t felt the need to use it on my rifle yet. All my shots on hogs are within the range of my green light bar so just the scope alone is fine. I was watching a group of deer mill around back in the tree line. They wanted to come out into the field I was in and they kept trying to figure what I was. They finally decided I was no threat to them and finally crossed the fence and meandered off. I did see one hog about 150 yards out, but was moving pretty fast so I probably wouldn’t have taken the shot even if I had the scope mounted. These things open up a whole new world. I’ve already started looking for my next one.

I went to Cabela’s and tried the included “mount” on probably 10 44-50mm scopes. I found a vortex 50mm that felt like it worked, but once the scope and thermal were coupled, the threads wouldn’t hold and the coupling slops around inside the objective of the scope so I took it off. The view while looking through it as a hand held is very impressive though. @Kingfish, if you dont mind my asking, what make/model of scope were you able to direct thread their included mount onto?

It was a vortex viper 6-24 gen 1. The gen 2 is probably the same tube. I don't know if you caught it in my earlier post, but when I mounted it that way, all I could see was a small circle less than a half inch in the middle of the scope fov. If I had to guess why this happened was because it placed the eyepiece of the thermal too close to the objective lens of the scope, but that may or may not be the same with all scopes. I'm no optics engineer. Using the adapter ring attached to the clamp mount spaces the eyepiece further out and may make that necessary to fill the fov on any scope.

So what's been your evaluation of this optic so far? I've been happy with mine, but am only using it for a hand held viewer. Even though I bought a mount for one of my scopes, I have yet to feel the need to use it on a rifle to shoot hogs. My shots always take place within the range of my green lights so any scoped rifle will do. I sit on one spot where there is a well worn crossing between the woods and the pasture they come out into after dark and don't ever need to shoot over 70m. It's nice to be able to see into the darkness where my light doesn't cover and hear something moving around. At some point I will get it zeroed on my rifle, probably the next time I go to the range to do some shooting.

I’ve had a lot of life happen since I got it and I haven’t even touched it in a couple weeks. I used it as a handheld to count coup on some rabbits/skunks/coons in my yard, but that’s it. Using it like that, it seems pretty impressive. I’m hopeful I’ll get to shoot with it in the next month or so.
