Roll sizing

Is it just me, or does it seem roll sizing is having a Renaissance? Seems I've seen lots of discussion on other places about it in the last few months, out of nowhere?

Beats me nowadays, hadn't heard of it being done/needed in a long time.

know way back when unsupported glock lip bulge cases, people spoke of roll sizing to reload, even heard of some modifying bullet sizers to push a glock lip case through to size, but brass was cheap back then so lots didn't mess with it, most glock shooters I seen just shot ammo & left the brass lay.

we reloaders all pick up brass left laying around at ranges to reload regardless of what brand firearm it was fired in, and with a decent set of sizing dies set up correctly a proper fls glock lip case works fine in most any firearm brand with supported chambers.

iirc roll sizing was done on cases used in custom match rifles with tight chambers, none of my rifles have that cause they're plain jane off the rack rifles, so I've never had to consider roll sizing.

Roll sizing 40 cal pistol brass is a must when using pick brass in a tight chambered fully supported match barrel. U dies and push through dies create a weak spot in the case right where the case head and thin brass start.
Since most everyone these days shoot 9mm and many don't reload the need for this has lessened. However with the advent of of PCC blow back 9mms I have seen a big up tic in pick up brass reloads not chambering in even Glocks, even with well set up dies. The bulge is right above the rim cut and dies just don't go down that far.

With that said, I had never seen a roll sizer for rifle calibers until recently and then it is only for 223 and 308 which would be accomplished on either a 9mm pistol roller for 223 or a 45 apc roller for 308. I don't see the point for rifle rollers as the web of the case is well above the rim where a standard die can size the area just fine.

I was the EC mandrel dies that squeezes the base of the rifle case. Even after a full length die it pushed the base in a little more to fit tight chambers.
